Support for every student to achieve strong learning outcomes
The Instructional Teaching Model used at Sandringham East Primary School is underpinned by the latest educational research which provides insights from the cognitive science of learning and educational psychology on how students learn. We are strongly aligned with The Victorian Teaching and Model 2.0, prioritising explicit teaching practices and approaches to support every student to achieve strong learning outcomes.
All lessons follow The Gradual Release Model of ‘I do, we do, you do’, which moves from explicit instruction through to guided practice ensuring teachers can monitor student success. This is followed by independent practice where studies have shown this is the most effective way to move new information from working memory to long term memory. Consistent engagement norms and opportunities to check for understanding techniques ensure consistency in practice from class to class and immediate teacher feedback.
Additionally, we have a daily 15-minute WIN (What I Need) session that provides an opportunity for our students to work on their personal goals in Maths and English.
