Specialists Programs

Sandringham East offers highly valued specialist programs in Physical Education, Science, LOTE (Mandarin) and Visual Arts, each with teachers who are passionate about their curriculum specialties.

Health and Physical Education

Engaging in P.E. fosters a sense of community and social connection, essential for enhancing overall wellbeing. Students are motivated to take part in activities that highlight the advantages of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Our inclusive programs help students develop an appreciation for both cooperative and competitive sports and games.

Weekly P.E. lessons focus on skill development and offer students a wide range of physical and sporting experiences. The F-2 program also emphasizes the progressive development of fundamental motor and locomotor skills, where 3-6 students focus refining their skills and game sense strategies. The senior school Students in years 4-6 compete in district swimming, cross country, and athletics events. Year 5/6 students engage in both winter and summer interschool sports.

Science

The Science program at Sandringham East Primary School is hands-on, experiential and endeavours to inspire students to experience the joy of scientific discovery and nurture their natural curiosity about the world around them. The focus is building the foundations of knowledge in the Biological, Chemical, Physical, Earth and Space sciences. Students are encouraged to develop the scientific skills of questioning, planning, conducting and communicating the results of experiments and scientific investigations.

LOTE

Our Mandarin program offers an engaging and immersive learning experience for students from Foundation to Grade 6, focusing on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while nurturing a love for the language and culture. Students become confident communicators in a fun and supportive environment, using interactive methods like games, songs, and storytelling. We ensure real-world application by helping students introduce themselves, describe their families, and share their interests. With a step-by-step approach, we teach Pinyin, characters, and sentence structures. Beyond the classroom, many students proudly share their newfound knowledge with family and friends. Cultural experiences are an integral part of the program, with celebrations like Chinese New Year, arts and crafts such as calligraphy and painting, and a Chinese Culture Day featuring music, dance, and cooking. Our goal is to foster students’ confidence and provide a lifelong appreciation for Mandarin and Chinese culture.
