Buildings and grounds to inspire learning and nurture growth.
At Sandringham East Primary School, we take play seriously! Our playgrounds are designed to inspire creativity, promote physical activity, and ensure that every child has a safe and enjoyable place to play. We have four designated play areas, each with its own unique charm and features.
1. The Oval: A Green Oasis for Play and Learning
Nestled at the heart of our playground lies the Oval, recently revitalized to enhance both play and environmental sustainability. With lush new grass and a modern recycled watering system, it serves as a verdant expanse where students can run, play, and engage in outdoor activities throughout the year. For high traffic areas, we’ve introduced artificial grass, ensuring durability without compromising on the natural aesthetic.
Surrounded by educational buildings and inspiring grounds, the Oval isn’t just a place to play—it’s a canvas for learning and growth. From organized sports to spontaneous games, it’s a versatile space where children cultivate physical skills, teamwork, and a love for the outdoors. At Sandringham East Primary School, our commitment to fostering holistic development is evident in every corner of our playground, where every child’s potential blossoms under the sun.
2. The Playscape: Nature’s Adventure Playground
Our crown jewel is the Playscape, an impressive playground that opened for play in 2016 after many years of dedicated fundraising. Designed by the renowned Richard Bellemo, with valuable input from our students at the time, the Playscape is a testament to what can be achieved through community effort and vision.
This play area is thoughtfully built in and around multiple native trees, including our beautiful eucalyptus trees, providing a natural and immersive play environment. The equipment is crafted from sustainable materials such as ropes, tyres, and wood, emphasising our commitment to environmental stewardship. Kids can explore climbing ropes, tunnels, platforms, and walkways that weave between the trees. Spanning an area of about 60 meters, the Playscape sits adjacent to our newly developed grass oval, making it a central hub of activity and exploration.
3. Foundation to Year 1 Play Area: A Quiet Haven
Our youngest students in Foundation to Year 1 have their own designated play space, nestled securely behind the classrooms. This tranquil area was lovingly designed by our Foundation parents and is filled with items that encourage imaginative play and quiet contemplation. It’s a perfect spot for our littlest learners to play safely and develop their creativity in a calm environment.
4. The Colourful Playground: Fun and Adventure Await
Last but certainly not least, we have what we affectionately call our Colourful Playground. This vibrant area is a lively nest of play equipment, featuring monkey bars, a slide, and other classic playground favourites. The bright and cheerful design is sure to attract children of all ages, offering a fun and engaging place to climb, slide, and play. Soft tan bark cushions every landing, ensuring safety as our students jump and explore to their hearts’ content.
At Sandringham East Primary School, our playgrounds are more than just places to play—they are spaces where imaginations soar, friendships are built, and every child can find their own adventure. Come and see for yourself how we’ve created a world of fun and learning through play!
